Patricia Piccinini ‘Curious Affection’ opens exclusively at Brisbane’s Gallery of Modern Art (GOMA) this weekend March 23, 2018. Patricia Piccinini is was one of Australia’s most interesting contemporary artists. Influenced by science, nature, fiction and the unconscious, Piccinini explores the social and moral implications of advancements in science and biotechnology on people, animals and our planet. Her fantastical creatures and environments engage us on an emotional level, and they challenge conventional notions of beauty, perfection and ideal forms. ‘Curious Affection’ invites audiences into Patricia’s world, a place where the boundaries between reality and artifice are collapsed and our intrigue and curiosity as the viewer sets in. The exhibition includes more than 70 new and recent sculptures, photographs, videos, drawings and large-scale installations.
